They become pale, lifeless, invalid and bereft of life. Then they fall apart. Like peeling of a layer of skin that I thought I could not live without. But I am here and I am fine. My past is a beautiful place, but it's a lonely place. I did so many things when you didn't see me, and all that dies with me. A drunk man puts his arm around my shoulder and tells me he knows how I feel. And I wish he did, because all I ever wanted was to let the world know how I feel. In the shadow world that is my past, you wander silently. Your faces are shadowed and over and over you repeat the words I remember you saying. And by now most of them are replaced by words I wish you have said. The past is dark castle. Some of us wander its halls and corridors nights on end like restless ghosts, saddened by how lonely we are in a world we built with such great care. Some of us don't even go in there anymore because of he pain it would bring us. When I dream at night I hold a bloody knife in my hand. At dawn I wander my shadow land, looking for bodies.
